Unique Is Better Than Perfect: Or the Philosophy of Beauty in Imperfection.
Unique Is Better Than Perfect – or where our philosophy of beauty in imperfection comes from.
It is said that no two snowflakes are the same, and it is true. Most often the differences lie in small imperfections: here a less sharp edge, here a slightly rounded shape. Everything in the world that comes from Nature is different. We can enclose it in sets belonging to certain: species, forms, shapes, races, but we will never find two perfect copies.
Not if the creator is Nature.
Repeatability is the domain of man. Our drive for uniformity has a psychological basis. In a group, belonging, we feel safer, more confident – that what we are doing is right. But for some reason Nature gives us this simple truth :
you are different, you are unique, you are distinct!
So why should we not make use of this truth?
Tilsam was born out of the need to be different. It is a small step on the road to uniqueness, which can sometimes seem dangerous. Because on this road, you decide for yourself what is right for you. You don’t follow the crowd that has set the path for you. You walk your own trail. Sometimes you will encounter a fallen tree, sometimes a rushing stream. But when you get there, you are the only person who got there. The first and the only.
The world encloses us in certain canons: of beauty, of style, of behavior. The world closes us to certain canons: of beauty, style and behavior; which do not include the aging human body or any other imperfections. Westerners, as the media convince us day after day, must always look young, have flawless facial features, smooth skin and a perfect figure. The world strives for perfection in every aspect of life. Forcing us to follow that path as well. As we all know, it is not possible in the long run and because of that, it becomes a source of complexes, frustrations and often also personal dramas.
At Tilsam, we have decided to stop this crazy carousel of self-destruction. We have decided to escape from this vicious circle and go our own way. And we would like you to join us.
We decided to reach for the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfections. True beauty, not so much external, but reaching deeper, i.e. to the essence of things. Resulting from the respect for the nature of creation. For her work and creation, and for the irrepressible will she wants to convey to us with all her strength.
You are not perfect. You are unique. And that is the most beautiful thing about you.
We would like to encourage you to focus on harmony, naturalness and authenticity, and to appreciate what is asymmetrical and far from perfect. We would like to encourage you to love yourself exactly as you are. The way you were created by Nature, who is never wrong. For some reason, she has given you a set of qualities that make you who you are. Which distinguishes you from others and makes you unique.
And we would like our jewelry, which is nothing else but exactly the same creation of Mother Nature, to always remind you of that.
You are not perfect. You are unique. And that’s better.
